Map

Icehouse. Described as being 'on piles in the middle of marsh'.
Not found marked on any 19th century map.
Possibly because it had a very short life.
Ice brought in wherries, discharged into elevator operated by horse gear, which took it into bins where it solidified under its own weight. Stated in (S1) to have been thatched, but photograph seems to show it with timber roof. Sides were built of pitchpine weatherboarding allegedly never paid for and resalvaged by suppliers on demolition.
E. Rose (NAU) 14 May 1981.

Icehouse and wharf marked on 2nd edition Ordnance Survey (S2) but not subsequent editions. Location now added.
A. Yardy (HES), 3 June 2011.
