Map

No mapped location recorded.

Finds recovered at unknown locations on Scolt Head during the early 20th century. Scolt Head island is a series of shingle ridge, dunes and marsh that lies to the north of Brancaster and Burnham Norton.

August 1915. Stray Find.
According to (S1) a Palaeolithic "Acheulian implement" was found by Professor Oliver on Scolt Head in 1915. The source of this information is not recorded. This was presumably a handaxe, although Wymer notes in (S2) that this location is a "…most unlikely provenance…" for such an object. This find is also listed in (S3), on (S4) and in (S5) and (S6), although no additional information is given. The provenance of this object is incorrectly listed as Burnham Deepdale by (S3) and (S4).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 15 December 2013.

Pre December 1934. Stray Find.
In December 1934 E. A. Ellis exhibited a square-ended flint scraper from Scolt Head at a meeting of the Prehistoric Society of East Anglia (S7). Although this find is noted on (S1) it is far from certain that this object was indeed Palaeolithic. According to (S1) it is in the Norwich Castle Museum (unregistered), although it cannot be identified in the museum's current accession records.
Previously recorded as NHER 1728.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 15 December 2013.
