Full Description
22 September 1981. Visit.
Hornyold's Motors.
Single storey cottage with two dormers. Central and southeast gable chimney stacks later. Said locally to be the oldest house in the town after Bishop Bonner's. This is not true but some timber framing and wattle and daub survives in northwest gable, and some roof timbers including a knee brace, which could be 17th century. Under back outshut (former yard) a well discovered. About 12.2m (40 feet) deep with 15cm (6 inches) water above rubble. Flint lined. Top covered with ridged brick vault probably of same date as outshut around 1800.
E. Rose (NAU), 22 September 1981.
D. Wicks (NLA) states that he filled the well with extinct motorcycles. The building was demolished around 1990, and Banyard place laid out on top.
E. Rose (NLA), 15 April 2002.
