Summary

Museum records indicate that a prehistoric saddle quern and an 'axehead' were found at this location during the 1960s and 1970s. The latter is assumed to have been a Neolithic flint or stone implement. Fieldwalking in 1984 recovered a prehistoric worked flint and medieval pottery and metal-detecting in 2021 recovered a range of metal objects, including a Late Bronze Age/Iron Age copper alloy awl; a Late Iron Age/Roman brooch; Roman bracelet fragments, tweezers, a spoon probe, spoon, military harness or strap fitting and a copper alloy hairpin; an Early Saxon annular brooch fragment; a Late Saxon finger ring; medieval and post-medieval dress accessories; medieval rotary casket keys, a harness fitting, leash swivel, box or casket mount, writing leads and lead spindle whorl and a post-medieval thimble or sewing ring.
