Full Description
FINDS IN THE KING'S LYNN MUSEUM
Poorly provenanced finds from the King's Lynn area include a copper alloy pin with a forked and coiled head (KILLM : 1978.196.61). This object was amongst material transferred from the Greenland Fishery Museum and its provenance is recorded simply as '?River'. Although listed in the museum's records as Late Saxon, pins of this type would generally now be regarded as Middle Saxon. This object is probably the subject of an illustration held by the NHER which depicts a pin of this type, labelled simply 'KLM' (S1). Also see Photograph (S2).
P. Watkins (HES), 4 November 2015. Amended by A. Beckham (HES), 1 July 2020.
The KLM also holds a collection of 56 wool bale seals that are believed to have come from the River Great Ouse at King's Lynn during the 19th century. See list in file from KLM.
See letters in file from G. Egan (Museum of London) (S3) in which he says some may not be seals, and queries the provenance.
Seals of London, Germany, York, Suffolk etc. Dates mainly 16th to 17th centuries.
E. Rose (NAU), 19 October 1981. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 4 November 2015.
