A World War Two pillbox and associated slit trenches are visible on aerial photographs from 1940-1. The type 24 pillbox has been constructed at TG 1128 4353 by December 1940 (S1). Two additional small rectangular structures are also visible at the site by July 1941 (S2). Both of these are approximately 3m by 2m in size and were probably temporary structures. Also present in 1941 are three sections of slit trench. The largest of these is rectangular and centred on TG 1129 4352. By 1946 a line of barbed wire has been constructed along the south of the site (NHER 38565) covering some of the trenches.
