Summary

During the 1980s a fragment of a medieval pottery kiln and a medieval cannon ball were found in the garden here.

1982. 3 Newmarket Road. Found in garden.
Cannon ball. About 10cm (4in) diameter, very heavy.
Outer skin rusted in patches but good condition. Found amongst layers of 'iron filings' and traces of burning. Suggests brought in with scrap iron at more recent date.
'Roman road' claimed on east side of garden was in fact flint floor of 19th century shed.
Visit by E. Rose (NAU), 13 September 1982.

April 1985.
Found after flint floor removed for lawn sowing.
Late medieval transitional kiln prop.
