Full Description
[1] reports as site of Lovell's Mill.
See (S1), active 1328 to 1329.
24 February 1983. Fieldwalking of field subdivision, medium conditions. Mound of yellowish brown sandy soil, about 0.5m high, about 17m east to west x 20m north to south.
Site of windmill according to documentary and fieldname evidence, A. Davison (NAU).
Immediately south of mound, coin of House of Valentinian, SECVRITAS REIPVBLICAE, AD 364-378.
6 unglazed post medieval sherds.
5 glazed red earthenware.
1 stoneware.
1 glazed Grimston.
1 clay pipe bowl fragment.
1 copper alloy strip fragment.
Flint flake.
1 Ipswich fine sandy base.
1 Ipswich pimply body sherd.

1 Grimston glazed sherd and 1 base.
1 bodysherd medieval glazed with white inclusions, 'software'.
1 post medieval West Norfolk bichrome body sherd.

Identified A. Rogerson (NAU) February 1984.
Ref (S2) gives fuller details of the mill.
It is shown as Mill Hill on an early 19th century map. A Millway is mentioned in 17th century and may be the same as a Millgate and 'Novum moledinum' in 1332 and 1388 respectively. The references to Lovells Mill are in 1388 and 1350
('Lovel Milnhill'). However some or all of these earlier references might be to site NHER 25045.
