Summary

Fieldwalking at this location between 1983 and 1996 recovered scatters of prehistoric flints, together with Iron Age, Roman, Saxon and medieval pottery sherds. Subsequent metal-detecting between 2013 and 2024 recovered medieval and post-medieval coins and a number of other metal objects, including a Roman brooch and harness pendant; a Middle/Late Saxon hooked tag; a Late Saxon brooch; a medieval harness mount; a medieval/post-medieval scabbard chape and a post-medieval buckle, mount and silver head-dress pin.

26 April 1983. Fenland Fieldwork.
Single flint tool (field not yet walked).
Identified by R. Silvester (NAU), May 1983.

14 October 1986. Further Fenland fieldwork (WGY AC) shows that this was one of a scatter of flints.
Also prehistoric sherds (Iron Age?).
Possibly Roman and Ipswich ware sherds and Late Saxon sherds.
Note also site NHER 17286 which lies within this scatter.
Conditions: weathered soil, covered by oilseed rape.
Finds in the NCM.

Some of the material found has been reidentified as medieval pottery.
