Map

Early 1980s. Between backfilled pit and west corner of field. Found on surface of ploughed field.
Fragments of worked limestone.
It is possible that this is part of rubble used to backfill the pit.
On a map of Norfolk of 1749 by Emmanuel Bowen in NRO, see (S1), this spot is known as North Tuddenham Church.
The present North Tuddenham is named West Tuddenham as it is in other 18th century sources.
(S1) is perhaps not to be trusted, but something odd is happening here.
A. Gregory (NAU) 13 May 1983.

(S2) states that North Tuddenham (not East) is credited with 2 churches in Domesday. He explains this as really meaning that Hockering church owned land in the parish, which seems a reasonable explanation.
E. Rose (NAU) 16 May 1983.
