Summary

This brick-built house dates to the 17th/18th century but has later 19th century features. Indeed, the history of the building is quite complex as various parts also underwent restoration in 1906. The building is notable for its stepped gables and has its main chimneystack on the west façade.

Map

18 May 1983. Visit by E, Rose (NAU).
Brick L-shaped building. One wing east-west adjoining a north-south wing at its west end. Base of south gable wall, and side walls of southern end, of north-south wing; and south wall base at east end of east-west wing, are in old brickwork (16th-17th century). But central portion, and upper floor including stepped gables and chimneys, is 19th century. Is this a reconstruction of an original form? A detailed interior inspection would be needed to be certain.
E. Rose (NAU) 18 May 1983.

(S1) dates to early 18th century. Notes a cellar, and a porch with stepped gable opposite main stack on main west facade. 19th century service range to north mentioned, but no other details of dating beyond initial statement. Difference in brickwork not mentioned.
E. Rose (NAU) 29 October 1986.

Source [1] states that the windows (including those described as ovolo moulded in listing) are all of 1906, there being only a couple of early 19th century openings in the west facade. This may be the date of the 'Victorian' reconstruction.
Plan in file.
E. Rose (NLA) 18 December 1997.
