Full Description
Pleasant flint and brick building of two storeys with central projecting porch tower. Probably early 18th century though built in 17th century style. In its east wall is reused medieval stone. Presumably from church like that in churchyard wall.
E. Rose (NAU), 31 May 1983.
June 1953. Listed, Grade II.
Early 17th century. Knapped and coursed flint and clunch, brick dressings, two storey one bay wings, two storey and attic one bay central porch; brick arch to ground floor, hoodmoulded windows above. Rusticated quoins. Gable has two shaft stack and lozenge. Wing to west flint, wing to east clunch. End stacks and dogtooth cornice. All window frames replaced 20th century.
Information from (S1).
E. Rose (NLA), 11 June 2002.
(S1) has confused the alignment, which is north to south rather than east to west; the porch projects eastwards. Exterior of north end (called east end in (S1)) alone seen. This is of squared clunch; but the quoins as well as the window surrounds are of brick with horizontal skintlings. This end of the building must therefore be a post 1770 rebuild. There is one large block of reused limestone in the north wall.
E. Rose (NLA), 13 March 2004.
March 2012. Building Survey.
In 1797 Lord Walpole donated a house to the parish to be used as a school and an extension was added in 1873 when it had 95 children in attendance. The school closed in 1980 and has been a private residance since 1981.
See (S2) for further details.
Z. Dack (HES), 14 May 2012.
