Summary

This is the crash site of a Bristol Beaufighter Mk VI F, which crashed at 16:30 on 22 April 1943. The v8567 no 68 squadron plane went out of control during a practice flight. This may be the same as NHER 29322.

July 1983. Excavation of crash site.
A Bristol Beaufighter Mk VI F, V8567 no 68 squadron, went out of control on a practice flight at 16.30 hrs on 22 April 1943. The aircraft spun out of cloud and crashed at 'Castle Farm, Swanton Morley.' Wreckage was spread over an area of 25 square yards. Despite immediate salvage works, several items were found during excavation including the pilot's back armour plate, part of a wheel door, and rounds of 20mm ammunition.
