Summary

Fieldwalking and metal-detecting between 1983 and 2016 recovered prehistoric worked flints, including a Late Neolithic/Early Bronze age discoidal knife; Iron Age, Roman, Middle Saxon, medieval, medieval/post-medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; a possible Roman coin blank; Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval tokens, post-medieval jettons, and Roman to post-medieval and undated metal objects. The metal finds include a Roman cosmetic mortar and a cast copper alloy ring; an Early Saxon bird's head terminal from a stave-built wooden bucket, cruciform brooches, a supporting-arm brooch (Sttzarmfibel), tweezers and a girdle hanger; a Late Saxon/medieval strap-end, medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; medieval copper alloy vessel fragments, a dagger and a coin weight; a medieval/post-medieval sieve fragment, scale-tang knife end cap, copper alloy vessel fragments and lead weights or spindle whorls; a post-medieval book clasp, spur fragment, a silver gilt pin, a finger or posy ring, harness mount, crotal bell and a fragment of furniture fitting in the form of a bird's head and undatable casting waste and a number of weights.
