Map

October 1977. Visit by E. Rose (NAU).
Old track marked by field boundaries, on (S1) and from [1]. Where it passes East Park Wood it is ploughed out but is visible as a cropmark. The south end of the road has been ploughed out, but is marked by a row of pylons. From TF 8782 3603 a tall and very old hedgerow takes up the course.
E. Rose (NAU) 5 October 1977.

South of TF 8651 3799 the hedgerow is still old, but not as old as further south. North of here the line ceases to follow the hedgerow and there is not a trace of it.
E. Rose (NAU) 7 October 1977.

Shown on (S2) as 'Old Burnham Road Stopped Up'.
E. Rose (NAU) 2 February 1987.

BKS aerial photograph from vertical survey of Norfolk shows course as cropmark from TF 8632 3830 to TF 8709 3712.
D. Edwards (NAU) 3 March 1988

29 July 1996. NLA aerial photography (S4).
Cropmarks of road visible. In addition to this there are cropmarks showing at TF 872 368 that suggest pits (eight or more). The origin of these pits is uncertain, but they are located alongside and running parallel to the road cropmark and could be connected to its construction (as quarrying pits for road materials). The pits have been recorded under NHER 36149.
H. Clare (NLA) 2 May 2001.
Amended H. Hamilton (HES), 24 June 2014.

Site visited and considered as part of archaeological assessment of Holkham Estate.
Former track, petering out into arable field.
See report (S3) for further details.
