Summary

A tank trap consisting of 24 anti-tank blocks, installed across a pasture east of Billingford Bridge during World War Two. This tank trap along with the two spigot mortar emplacements to the west (NHER 32447-8) would have defended the road and river crossings at Billingford/North Elmham parish border.

Tank Trap.
A Row of concrete blocks installed across a pasture east of the demolished Billingford Bridge.
This tank trap is marked on new OS surveys, and its location has been confirmed by D. Wicks (NAU).

The tank trap consists of 24 quite common anti-tank blocks, dated about 1940.

February 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The previously recorded rows of anti-tank cubes are visible on aerial photographs dating to 1946 (S2-S3). Later photography (S4) indicates that some of the cubes have been moved from their original positions. This tank trap along with the two spigot mortar emplacements to the west (NHER 32447-8) would have defended the road and river crossings at Billingford/North Elmham parish border.

Twenty-four blocks present, as shown on the mapping, although one in the middle has slumped and that at the west end has toppled over. With recent clearances, they are now far more visible from the B1145.
