Summary

Fieldwalking in 1984 by the Fenland Survey recovered a general scatter of medieval pottery sherds around and surrounding a small to medium roddon. Two concentrations of medieval objects were also noted, as well as post medieval building debris, bone and shell fragments. Metal detecting in 1994 recovered a late medieval or early post medieval casket key, and a gilded rectangular harness pendant.

14 March 1984. Field of strawberries and well weathered plough soil.
Context 1: general scatter medieval sherds around small to medium roddon, and surrounding. WPP DX (S1).
Context 2: at 5032 1698. Concentration medieval pottery 30 x 37m maximum, moderate with post medieval pot sparse, building rubble in form of fired clay fragments abundant, slag moderate, bone sparse to moderate, shell same.
Medieval spread greater than post medieval. Top and sides of rodham. WPP 64 (S2).
Context 3: at 5028 1697. Concentration of medieval pot close to but separate from Context 2. 22m x 20m minimum (runs into grassed area). Moderate medieval pot, sparse post medieval pot. Moderate shell, bone sparse to moderate. Fired clay fragments same. So some post medieval concentration. Some slight staining; on south side roddon. WPP 65 (S3).

One Late medieval or early post medieval casket key, circular bow, hollow stem.
One pendant, probably harness, medieval. Unusual rectangular form, gilded. Eleven transverse engraved lines. 31mm (excluding loop) x 15.5mm.
Two post medieval finds (not recorded).
