Full Description
February to December 1972.
Bally's shoe factory demolished and replaced by housing development (E.Skipper and Associates - St Michael at Pleas Scheme).
Development by R.G. Carter Developments.
Site terraced for construction of factory and virtually all previous deposits removed, except those deep enough to reach below level of Princes Street and some on southern edge of site.
Late Saxon pottery including St Neots ware rim. Medieval pottery including Grimston green glaze, two small crucibles, one small spike cresset.
A pit produced a lot of lead glazed earthenware of about 1670 to 1675.
Glass goblets etc. Delft bleeding bowl and fragments of a plate and a bowl.
Animal bones include rat, pig, ox, hare, bird, sheep and domestic cat.
14th century undercroft with few medieval sherds in fill. Flint lined well.
Sherd of Italian marbled bowl. Other post medieval material/pottery includes clay pipes, bellarmine tops, Westerwald, Delft tile etc.
Staffordshire combware, posset cup and 18th century Chinese porcelain bowl.
