Map

April 1984: Observed while walking meadow after first ploughing.
West part of existing east to west field boundary is in fact a wide moat-like ditch 3.6m to 4.2m (12 to 14 feet) wide, contrasting sharply with the east part of the ditch which is a normal field dyke. At the southwest corner of this field
the moat-like feature swings to the northwest, and ends in the pit at the far side of the field. Appears to be an earlier earthwork re-used as a field boundary. Information from [1].
A. Gregory (NAU), 4 May 1984.

Tithe Award Map 1840s, gives field plan as on Ordnance Survey provisional 6 inch map.
Fields north of ditch (which is not shown) are named as Grove Meadow and Great Common Meadow, but shown as arable. So was this a former wood boundary ditch? On the other hand if the ditch was dry it would probably not have been shown on the tithe map and thus could still be an earlier moated site.
E. Rose (NAU), 25 June 1984.
