Full Description
14 May 1984. Found when setting potatoes in allotment.
Human bones; sacrum and three articulated vertebrae, also fragment of ?pelvis.
Reported to coroner. Further investigation when potatoes lifted.
E.M. James (KLM) 14 May 1984.
About 1942 at same spot as above, apparently (see sketch in file), under nettles on allotment.
'Burial urn' uncovered by [2], at that time a 14 year old boy who states he gave it to KLM but only years later did he find out its identification when seen on display 'wired together'. No record of this on NHER, or on the one-inch maps used by KLM for recording finds in 1960s, (S1), but earlier finds were not always recorded.
Was the pot seen on display definitely the same one as found in 1942?
In any case a cremation from the same site as an inhumation is likely to be of importance.
KLM staff are trying to trace the urn in 1995.
L. Brewster (KLM) and E. Rose (NLA) 20 April 1995.
No trace of any such object in KLM stores.
L. Brewster (KLM) June 1995.
January 2006. Same site as previous find.
Report from Norfolk Police of a human bone found by allotment holder. Site visited by [3] but no further finds made. (S2) identifies bone as from female aged 15-16 but does not assign a date.
E. Rose (NLA), 6 March and 3 April 2006.
