Summary

In 1950 a very fine quality Neolithic polished flint axehead was recovered from this area. Subsequent fieldwalking in 1984 and 1988 retrieved prehistoric worked flints, a flint adze, part of polished Neolithic stone axehead and a fragment of a Neolithic quernstone.

April-June 1984. Field west of School Hill. Intensive fieldwalking after sowing.
Scatter of worked flints all over field.
Half a polished stone axe from centre of field. Flint adze at 3582 1416.
Finds held by NCM, formerly by member of the public [1].

Around 1950. From northeast corner of field.
Very fine quality Neolithic polished flint axe few areas not as well polished as remainder, and slightly assymetrical. Pale flint with ironstain trails. 15cm long x 5.5cm across blade and 2cm across butt.
Inf via [1], finder [2] though 'officially' belongs to his son.
May eventually donate to NCM.
Axe seen and measured and findspot recorded by E. Rose (NAU) 27 November 1985.

Spring 1988. East edge of field behind Meadow View; found in fieldwalking.
Flake from quern stone; flake from ?flint axe?; flake retouched as hollow scraper; retouched flake; two crude cores; core, burnt flake; scraper; twenty-seven flakes.
Identified by J. J. Wymer (NAU).
