Summary

This is marked as a mound called Guies Hylle on an early 17th century map of Aylsham Common. The form of the mound is similar to that of a bronze Age round barrow.

(S1) (part drawn out by [1]- in Aylsham parish file) includes a mound coloured yellow and named as Guies Hylle. Resembles barrows shown on other contemporary maps. Location estimated by A. J. Lawson (NAU) and E. Rose (NAU) to be in general area of bend in road (Spa Lane) shown as woodland on (S2). Map also shows road bending round it.

November 2021. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The earthwork mound, suggested to have related to a Bronze Age round barrow, was not visible at this location on the sources consulted as part of this project. A mound which may relate to a possible Bronze Age round barrow has been mapped in close proximity (approximately 100m) to the southwest (NHER 64288).
