Full Description
July 1982. RCHME Building Survey
Mid 18th century house with later additions, standing on older site and perhaps incorporating older walling. 18th century panelling survives with some reused 17th. In yard behind, remains of late medieval arcaded brick walls probably of warehouse.
For detailed information see (S1) in file.
E. Rose (NAU), 10 August 1984.
The arcaded brick walls mentioned on the north of the yard are those described under NHER 5535. The demolished sections each side of the yard, through which the present car park of No. 25 has been cut, contain a number of greenglazed bricks, whether deliberate or kiln waste is not clear. By comparison with other Lynn buildings the date would seem to be 16th century rather than late medieval.
E. Rose (NAU), 1 March 1985.
Plan filed under NHER 5335.
E. Rose (NAU).
The house is listed grade II*.
E. Rose (NLA), 24 February 1999.
(S1) notes that the plot upon which this house stands was already built upon by 1680 (S3) and it is therefore probable that the present building probably incorporates elements of an earlier one. The L-shaped plan is believed to be typical for medieval houses in King's Lynn, and many rebuilt houses retain this form (S4).
See (S1) for further information.
A. Cattermole (King's Lynn UAD), 22 November 2018.
