Summary

Two concentrations of prehistoric pot boilers, or burnt mounds, have been found during field walking. Prehistoric flints, and medieval and post medieval bricks and tiles have also been found.

Early 1980. Field Ordnance Survey Great Fransham 216. Field walking in good conditions.
Two potboiler sites, context 4 at 9063 1284, 14m east to west x 7m north to south, and context 5 at 9069 1285, 8m diameter, circular.
Sizeable quantity of late 16th to early 18th century pottery, few medieval sherds, late medieval/early post medieval bricks. See (S1).

This is one of only two entirely post medieval settlement sites found during field walking. Two buildings are shown on the site on (S3).
