Summary

A late 16th century hall within a medieval moat. The hall is probably built on the site of a medieval manor house. Some sections of 16th century garden walls and a 16th century bridge survive on the site, and various ancillary buildings are mentioned in medieval and post medieval documents. Next to the moat are the well preserved earthworks of a medieval fishpond complex. Roman and medieval pottery has been found on the site.

August 2004. Visit to assess damage to west side of moat.
Some 0.9m to 1.2m (3 to 4 feet) of bank has eroded away along this section. Problem probably caused by sluice exit and prolonged period of rainfall. Owner to investigate the cost of placing gabions along this edge. Grant aid under Section 17 may be possible. Fish ponds remain heavily overgrown with once entrance planked bridge disturbed.
H. Paterson (A&E), 27 August 2004.

The manor house is referred to in a lease of 1562 as 'now being builded and edifyied'.
