Map

7 December 1984. Fieldwalking. Fenland site FWL 54.
Good conditions (context 2 at grid reference).
Concentration of flints (moderate and evenly spread) and pot boilers sparse to moderate. Also bone sparse and
prehistoric pottery in places moderate but otherwise sparse. Pottery may not be so widely spread as the flint and with one or two exceptions is unlikely to be contemporary. Less on the northern slopes and southern side of the area of flints. Site on a chalk ridge possibly with some natural flint occupying. Concentration drops off as ground drops on north side. Area around 75m north to south x 59m east to west.
R. J. Silvester (NAU), 7 December 1984.

Fenland archive adds two Roman sherds in context 2 and also medieval ware.

10 December 1984. Fenland fieldwalking.
Context 1.
General field scatter. FWL BC. Odd flint fragments and post medieval sherds (quite a few) - latter collected to show
when field brought into cultivation. Also unidentified bronze object from 6966 9145.

Context 3 at 697 915 approx.
Planoconvex knife. Noted by F. Healy from Curtis Collection Catalogue (field 88) . Formerly numbered NHER 14645.

Context 4 at 6971 9159.
Scatter flints, pot boilers, odd prehistoric sherd over area 40m north to south x 20m east to west. FWL BB.
Archive adds medieval sherds.

Context 5 at 6971 9152.
Pot boilers, moderate and even spread; flints very sparse. On edge of ridge running down into hollow. 19m north to south x 19m east to west. FWL 55.

Context 6 at 6964 9158.
Concentration potboilers sparse to medium, flint sparse, bone very sparse. No pot. From gentle ridge down to almost flat chalk drift area. Appeared as two individual concentrations but probably one large area about 40m diameter, however pot
boilers much more common in east part, perhaps overlapping sites. FWL 56.

Context 7. North part of field.
Part of long scatter of pottery called Bronze Age by [1] (but not seen NCM) when found in 1977 after shallow ploughing of low sandhills. Part of site NHER 12711 called NHER 20992 where it crosses this field.
R. Silvester (NAU) & E. Rose (NAU), 19 December 1984

Some of material from Context 2 has been reidentified as Iron Age pottery

1991.
Flint scraper found.
W. Milligan (NCM), 14 January 1992
