Map

Garden of Icehouse Dyke house.
Remains of icehouse. Dismantled in 1950s.
Small mound of bricks remains under brambles.
(Name Icehouse Reach recorded for river here in 1920s by H. St. John Bolingbroke from wherryman. Site of Icehouse Dyke House noted then as Cox's Set).
Site visited by E. Rose (NAU) but owing to absence of everybody concerned, only grid ref of garden could be established.
E. Rose (NAU), 23 April 1985.

Icehouse location now repositioned from site centred on TG 364 206 (as above) to more likely location on river. Postcard held by Local History Group apparently dated 1909 shows what is believed to be the former icehouse building with its gable end facing onto the river. The building is constructed of colourwashed brick and thatch with a loading door in the gable and another visible in south façade. A rectangular building which matches the footprint and position of that shown on the postcard is marked on available OS maps (S1) and (S2).
A. Yardy (HES), 13 June 2014.
