Summary

Fieldwalking in 1985 in the area of a soilmark visible on aerial photography recovered a few fragments of Roman pottery sherds and some possbile fragments of briquetage.

1 April 1985. Fieldwalking on well weathered ploughsoil.
Dark stain consisting basically of grey soil and visible on Cambridge University Committee for Aerial Photography contains two basic elements; in southwest part (context 2) few fragments Roman pottery and numerous small fragments of what may be briquetage; in northeast sector (context 3) more pottery but little briquetage.
In between the odd sherd only (context 1). Overall area 55m northeast to southwest x 30m at 1.5m OD.
