Full Description
1985. Survey.
Smallish, c.9 x 7m x 6m to apex. Aligned north to south with 19th century building added to north. Timber framed. North wall formerly of clay lump - part removed for access to later building. East wall part of clay lump, part replaced in weather-boarding; South wall weather-boarded; West wall corrugated iron. Interior full of straw bales so largely concealed, but has central tie beam with massive arched brace at east end at least, springing from expanded topped post, tiebeam resting on wallplate. Inverted arched braced at each end north wall springing from expanded corner posts; also at south end
east wall, but no trace braces in south wall (other corners not visible). Cart door north end east wall, each side doorposts in
mortises in wallplate larger than present timbers; but these timbers have been shaved back (note assembly number cut in half on north doorpost). The north east corner post however, behind this, is also shaved back! Probably marks late insertion of cart door. Small hatch in south wall upper. Roof and gables modern but mortises for gable studs
in top of south wallplate. Poor condition overall. Date pre 19th century, very probably 17th but could be older - no strictly datable features and overall style of timber barns tends to be retarded.
E. Rose (NAU) 1 August 1985.
