Summary

A possible 14th or 15th century terracotta head from the apex of an arch or a decorative motif was found in the wall of a cottage when it was demolished. The figure appears similar to St John the Baptist although it is not depicted in Classical style.

1958. Found in wall of cottage when demolished.
Terracotta head. ?apex of arch or decorative motif. 20cm (8 inchs) long, 15cm (5 3/4 inchs) wide, 7.25cm (3 inchs) deep.
Probably late 14th/early 15th century like St John's heads in alabaster. Nothing Classical about it.
