Summary

Two lumps of iron slag were dredged from the river in 1985. The lumps may have been 17th century pins in the process of being melted down.

August to September 1985. Dredged up by AWA.
Finders stated found at depth of 11 metres, but workmen stated mud at that depth was barren and said objects came from 4m deep.
Two lumps slag, with lumps of iron? containing very large number of brass pins with applied heads. Suggestions of one or two other tiny brass objects, a spring? and couple of studs?
Identified by S. Margeson (NCM) as possibly 17th century pins in process of being melted down.
X-rays NCM 1998-90 show nothing to help dating etc. (plates KLM).
