Full Description
1961. In digging foundations for new offices for Legal and General Assurance Society Ltd.
Sherds of medieval glazed pottery 13th century and unglazed 12th century from site generally south face of excavation nearest castle street.
Revealed in fill of ditch at least 9.2m (30ft) wide and 4.3m (14ft) below modern road level into which refuse pits of probable 16th century date had been cut after ditch silted up.
Undated human skull.
From refuse pit 1.8m (6ft) below street level cut into infill of large ditch.
Late Saxon Thetford ware rim.
14th century glazed jug (large proportion of upper half).
Unglazed medieval rim and body sherds.
Late medieval/Trans body sherds.
16th century Sieburg stoneware base.
Finds held by NCM.
