Full Description
Mound 72m long by 41m wide (236 feet by 135 feet), height 1.2m to 1.37m (4 feet to 4 feet 6 inches), ditch 45cm (18 inches) deep.
July 1951.
About 10.6m (35 feet) long section excavated on east edge of long oval mound, fragment of brick found in mound; two trial holes on top by W. Warby.
(Halls (Clenchwarton) Lewton-Brain, Nicholls, Thatcher) 2.54cm to 3.8cm (1 inch to 1 1/2 inches of peat surround mound. Thatcher regards brick as indication of burning due to fire.
September 1951.
Warby at 76cm (2 1/2 feet) down found layer of very dark soil and burnt ashes with pieces of bone and pottery which he called 'early Roman'. Early medieval.
1952 trial hole, plan by Nicholls. One sherd found by R. R. Clarke (NCM)
1952. Probably a salt boiling site. NCM has one sherd from mound.
Oval mound 68m by 44m with steep sides and 1.5m high on grassed common.
Surrounded by shallow ditch 3m wide, 4cm deep.

The mound is visible as an earthwork in an area of drained marshland, and is located next to an extensive group of salterns.
