See (S1) for the complete listing details.

Rare case of a house built in about 1600 around reused 15th/16th century beams.
Probably on three cell, two storey plan with a lobby entrance.
Grand parlour with brick gable added on north in about 1640, when original south end demolished, and the new attic and roof were inserted. 19th century alterations are visible.

2001. Building Survey.
The present attic floor rests on short posts formed from re-used timbers. When these were partly exposed in the 1970s, it was suggested they came from the demolished Thorpe Hall manor house. Documents record that John Tuthill became lord of the manor in the 17th century and lived 'at the cross', a description fitting Corner Cottage. The two moulded beams a late medieval/early 16th century in date, whereas the structure of the present house is 17th century: this would appear to confirm the earlier suggestion.

May 2011.
The timber-framed house is in fact an early barn conversion. The cart entrance on the west elevation has been filled-in and a returned gable-end with stack was added to the north end. The re-used beams form the inserted floor and the south gable-end is a later addition. There is a fine C16 clasped purlin roof with wind bracing and occasional queen struts. Photographs available.
