Summary

Fieldwalking in 1986 by the Fenland Survey recovered a general scatter of medieval pottery sherds from this field. Two concentrations of medieval pottery sherds were also noted, in conjunction with shell and bone fragments and some post medieval pottery sherds and material. Evidence of a roddon was also noted.

20 March 1986. Fieldwalking, well weathered ploughsoil. Field northeast of the Bustards.
Context 1: general scatter medieval sherds. WPP GQ (S1).
Context 2: at 5182 1754. Concentration sparse medieval pot, shell sparse to moderate, sparse bone. Not really significant post medieval presence. On south side roddon with hint of greyness to silt. 43m east to west x 31m north to south at 2.4m OD. WPP 108 (S2).
Context 3: at 5165 1749. Concentration of late medieval/early post medieval pottery, sparse, bone and shell but quite a lot of building rubble and soil heavily stained. Less than 21m north to south x 27m east to west at 2.1m OD. WPP 109 (S3).
