Summary

Fieldwalking and metal-detecting between 1986 and 1989 recovered Palaeolithic and Neolithic worked flints (including a polished axehead fragment) and a medieval annular brooch. It appear that a Middle Saxon pottery sherd was also recovered at this site.

March 1986. Fieldwalking.
Found by [1], south-east of church:
1 ?Palaeolithic flint flake.
Neolithic worked flints including 1 scraper, all brown stained.
Probably amongst material donated to the Norwich Castle Museum in 1999 (NWHCM : 1999.1.33.3).

October 1989. Metal detecting.
2 Palaeolithic flint flakes. Stained and slightly worn thick primary flakes - probably Palaeolithic.
19 ?Palaeolithic flint flakes. Stained. In absence of any diagnostic features or context it is impossible to be definite about a strong possibility that these are from a Palaeolithic industry.
5 Neolithic flint flakes and 1 polished flint axe fragment, part burnt.
1 medieval ?annular brooch and 1 ?copper alloy object.

These discoveries were reported in (S2). The Palaeolithic flints are also noted on (S3).
The flints and the unidentified copper alloy object are probably amongst a collection of material from this site donated to the Norwich Castle Museum in 1999 (NWHCM : 1999.1.33.3).

The finds held by the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1999.1.33.3) are listed as including a Middle Saxon Ipswich Ware pottery sherd. This appears to be an unreported find.
