Summary

Metal-detecting at this site has recovered ?Mesolithic, Neolithic and undatable prehistoric worked flints; Iron Age, Roman, medieval and medieval/post-medieval pottery sherds; post-medieval tokens and Bronze Age to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include Bronze Age copper alloy palstave/socketed axehead fragments; an Early Saxon Coptic bowl fragment; a medieval belt hook, buckle plate and purse bar and a post-medieval buckle and dropwheel spur.

Originally numbered NHER 10033 before that number was moved to east.

1992. Fieldwalking and metal detecting. Southwest of area = site 2.
2 undatable prehistoric flint scrapers, 2 hammerstones, 1 small flake and 1 small blade.
1 ?Mesolithic flint ?rod microlith.
1 Neolithic flint ?knife.
2 Bronze Age copper alloy axe blade fragment; one probably a palstave (S2), the other a palstave/socketed axehead (S3)
1 ?Bronze Age copper alloy unidentified object fragment (S3).
Iron Age pottery sherds (lots of flint-gritted sherds).
Roman pottery sherds (very worn greyware sherds).
1 Early Saxon Coptic bowl footring fragment.
Medieval pottery sherds (including green glazed Grimston), 1 belt hook, 1 buckle plate, and 1 purse bar fragment.
Late medieval/early post-medieval pottery sherds.
2 post-medieval tokens (Elizabeth I lead token 1558-1603 (S4) and James I Royal Farthing token 1614-25) and 1 lead weight.
Flints identified by P. Robins (NCM). See lists and descriptions in file. The Early Saxon coptic bowl fragment was given to the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1999.323.7.8.1).

6 May 1994. Metal-detecting.
Lots of small fragments flint gritted pottery, probably Iron Age.
17th century double trapezoidal buckle frame. Extended pin swivel bar. Traces of possible iron pin.
The buckle and at least some of the Iron Age pottery recovered at this site were subsequently given to the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1999.323.7.8).
