Summary

Excavations at this site in 1987 recorded the presence of eight Iron Age flint flakes. Later metal detecting in 1994 and 2005 recovered a post medieval button with stamped decoration and two post medieval coins.

Spring 1987. Excavation by [1].
Features noted. Finds recorded as 'eight good flint flakes probably Iron Age, two fragments heavily patinated Roman glass, one clay pipe stem, etc'. Material not seen NAU.
(The excavation was intended to confirm results of dowsing by [1], which he believed had indicated two Roman roads crossing, a Roman temple, three overlying Saxon churches with a founder's grave and tile-clad graves, and several other buildings suggested as Roman. [1]'s suggestions, as recorded by A. Gregory (NAU), are placed in the file without any comment on their validity. A brief note on the excavation is also included).
