Full Description
Plot on west side of church.
9 July 1987. Depth of 20-25cm topsoil stripped for construction of house but no footing trenches.
Soil unweathered, very careful scrutiny of cover loam derived soil yielded no evidence of underlying occupation. Occasional pantile and brick fragments and four sherds glazed red earthenware not collected. One flint flake and one medieval unglazed bodysherd retained. No evidence connected with hall site to north or suggesting early village round church.
A. Rogerson (NAU), 10 July 1987.
