Summary

During the construction of a tennis court here in 1987 a number of artefacts were found. These comprised a sherd from a Roman amphora, another unidentified pottery sherd and eleven prehistoric flints including a core.

23 July 1987 (not on 6in Ordnance Survey). Area 34m east-west, 18m north-south stripped for tennis court, levelled into south facing slope so that southern edge about 10cm deep and northern 1m deep.
No archaeological features seen in natural weathered chalk with numerous linear sandy features or stripes.
Finds from weathered surface of stripped area and spoil heap:
One sherd Roman amphora; one dark grey sherd unidentified; eleven flints including one core.
Finds held by NCM, formerly by fieldwork staff (A. Rogerson (NAU)).
