Full Description
'Steam engine' marked on tithe award map 1840.
'Disused pumping station' on 1953 6 inch Ordnance Survey map.
This has been demolished, a mere heap of rubble remains, the haunt of weasels and other lowly creatures.
R. Silvester (NAU), 26 January 1983.
This is the Magdalen Fen Engine, the first steam engine built to pump the Norfolk Fens in 1834.
Information from (S1).
E. Rose (NLA), 25 January 2000.
(S1) notes the Butterley Engines were removed 1914 and replaced by Gwynnes. In 1948 diesel engines took over. Confirms building now gone.
(NB Typing error in grid reference in (S1).)
E. Rose (NLA), 8 December 2003.
