Full Description
14 October 1987. Fenland fieldwalking. Good young cereal well weathered.
Context 1: general scatter, east half field (west not yet walked) flints and one prehistoric sherd at grid reference.
Context 2 (at 6880 1012): pot boilers both. Site SHD AX.
Context 3 (at 6885 1019): concentration pot boilers where old dyke infilled. Material appears to be largely derived from upcast from dyke and therefore original. However a faint possibility that redeposited from elsewhere when dyke infilled. If genuine, indicates that a pot boiler site still completely buried beneath peat. 25m north-south x 20m east-west at 3.7m OD. Site SHD 15.
Finds held by NCM
R. Silvester (NAU) 15 October 1987.
Some of the material from Context 1 has been reidentified as Roman pottery.
26 June 1989. NAU aerial photography.
Shows ?Iron Age enclosure and two hut circles.
D. Edwards (NAU).
It appears the western half of the field was never walked in the end. These cropmarks lie partly in Context 1 and partly in the unwalked area.
E. Rose (NAU) 5 July 1993.
For full details of wares, flint types etc. see Fenland Folders.
