Summary

Fenland fieldwalking in 1988 recorded a scatter of prehistoric worked flints and pot boilers at this location. In addition, an animal burial was discovered in the west side of the dyke here.

2 March 1988. Fenland fieldwalking, good conditions, weathered soil. Strip field along southwest side of Sam's Cut Drain.
Context 1: general scatter couple of worked flints. Also animal burial in west side of dyke. (J. McInley says immature horse or cow) bones revealed in entrance to fox earth (information from [1]). Examined by R. Silvester (NAU) in situ at 9275 9590 or thereabouts. Site SRY AV.
Context 2: at 6279 9587 concentration of pot boilers in edge of drain, site presumably truncated by drain, no flint. 27m northwest-southeast x greater than 9m northeast-southwest at 1.2m OD. Site SRY 13.
