Map

Found before 1988. Not certainly from King's Lynn.
Brooch or pendant fragment of the 15th century. Would have been attached to a backplate with a lug and catchplate for the pin; all this now missing; or there would have been a loop for suspension.
Gilded copper alloy plate decorated in repousse technique, with 'blob'-headed rivets holding it in place on another sheet. The rivets may have had white metal plating. A very close parallel was found in the Fishpool hoard in Nottinghamshire, a hoard of jewellery deposited after 1464 on the evidence of the coins. This is a very close
parallel in terms of construction, although the Fishpool one is made of gold, with a sapphire in the centre, and 'blobs' of white enamel on stalks around it. The Fishpool roundel has a loop to be suspended as a pendant.
Polaroid (S1) NCM.
Identified by S. Margeson (NCM), 1 March 1988.
