Summary

Fieldwalking as part of the Fenland Survey recovered a scatter of prehistoric worked and burnt flint and pieces of Iron Age, Roman and medieval pot. A concentration of Iron Age pot was found. This is indicative of Iron Age settlement.

28 April 1988. Fenland fieldwalking.
Conditions: good. Weathered soil, young cereal.
Context 1. MTW GE.
Odd sherds of Iron Age and medieval pottery, pot boilers and flint flakes scattered across central part of field.

Context 2 at TL 7248 9536. MTW 161.
Concentration of Iron Age pot with a few burnt pebbles and fragments of bone, possible in darker soil. On top of
large natural hollow on chalk hillside sloping down to fen. Around 45m northwest to southeast x 40m northeast to southwest.

Also Roman and Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age sherds from context 1.
