Summary

This Inn has a mid 16th century core, though the majority of the fabric dates to the 17th to 18th centuries. It is timber-framed and with clay lump and brick infill, and sits on a brick and flint plinth. This one storey building is thatched and has four chimney stacks including an external one on the south gable.

Mid 16th century core, fabric 17th-18th century. Timber-framed, clay lump and brick infill, brick and flint plinth. Thatched. One storey and attic. Four stacks including external one on south gable. North gable 18th century tumbled brick. South room 18th century, both with spine beams, central with chamfer stops. Winder staircase by north gable. Butt purlin roof. Pantile outshut.

Advertisement in EDP (S2) states inn is reputed to date to the 1300s and is mostly 16th century and that a 'mason's mark dated 1661 has been found in the cellar'. Photo of south room confirms Listing's (S1) 18th century date for this end.
