NHER 24633 (Building record) - Browston Hall

November 1954. Listed, Grade II*.
Late 17th century, rebuilt mid 18th century, altered 19th century.
Rendered and painted brick, tiled. Original south block with 2 circular windows in each gable, with parts of original kneelers. South front 18th-19th century, two storeys, three bays, central false door in stucco with hood. Full height canted bays each side, 19th century. Sash window over door, 18th-century egg and dart cornice. Gable stacks. Cross wing to north added or remodelled mid 18th century.
West façade 2 storeys and attics, double piled. To north other 18th century ranges, and orangery, timber framed and glazed. Interior of hall has fine 18th century staircase with plaster ceiling with eagle, Minerva over door. Two further ground floor plaster ceilings with eagle and the Four Ages of Woman, also an Arcadian scene in one canted bay; suggested as former 18th century with 19th century eagles and women, latter all 19th century.
Restored 1970s.
