Summary

In 1988 there were reports that a range of Saxon coins, possibly from Thetford, were available for purchase. These may have been found through illegal metal detecting on the bypass route. No further details exist regarding these coins.

1988. M. Bonser, numismatist, reports that he has heard the following coins are coming on the market, but he has not seen them.
Pennies of Edmund of East Anglia, Berhtwulf, an East Anglian Coenwulf.
Ecgberht of Wessex, Harold II.
'Sceattas in profusion'.
'Probably from Thetford'.
Possibly from illegal detecting on the bypass.
All that can be said with any certainty is 'probably from Thetford'.
