Summary

1979 aerial photography shows the cropmarks of a possible medieval moat, though the identification is tentative. Examination of the available aerial photographs as part of the National Mapping Programme demonstrated that the visible earthworks are all depicted on the Tithe and 2nd edition Ordnance Survey maps, and are considered to be post-medieval drainage ditches.

Map

5 January 1979. Cambridge University Committee for Aerial Photography aerial photograph.
Earthworks; possible moat, but rather long and narrow, yet more distinct than drainage earthworks around.
South side shown as waterfilled ditch on six inch Ordnance Survey map of 1957.
Also earthworks of the stream course, now dry, shown on same map.
D. Edwards (NAU), 19 November 1985, and E. Rose (NAU), 14 December 1988.

Low earthworks visible on the ground. These do not seem to form any coherent pattern. Owner says land has been drained, ploughed and re-seeded.
H. Paterson (NLA), 11 June 1996.

Low lying field partially flooded at time of visit, earthworks marked by water. Owner states field was ploughed several years ago. Cattle grazing in summer months will continue.
H. Paterson (NLA), 18 March 1999.

September 2012. Norfolk NMP.
Examination of the available aerial photographs (S1-S2) as part of the National Mapping Programme demonstrated that the visible earthworks are all depicted on the Tithe and 2nd edition Ordnance Survey maps, and are considered to be post medieval drainage ditches. They have not been mapped since they are so clearly visible on the historic maps.
E. Bales (NMP), 11 September 2012.
