Summary

Metal detecting at this location in 1989 and 1992 recovered some astonishing medieval metal objects. These comprised a superb 14th century cast lead face in relief on a disc, a 12th/13th century lead seal matrix and a medieval lead stamp with a lion passant in relief. A Roman 'headstud' brooch was also discovered here.

'Thealby' type headstud brooch. Solid chain loop; knurled ribs on wings and deep narrow groove down bow. Similar to (S1): figure 43 number 429. Later 2nd century. To be photographed NAU. Information from finder.

12th/13th century pointed oval lead seal matrix. ---PATILIE FILIA RE--?
Beautiful 14th century cast lead face in relief on a disc, the reverse of which is finely cross-hatched as if to hold it in
place. See polaroid (S2).
Medieval lead plaque with lion passant in low relief in sunken field. ?Used as a stamp?
Four lead square plates, each stamped with 'R' - ?Medieval.
